Spiced Vanilla Bean Gin Sour

Ingredients
  • FOR THE SPICED LEMON VANILLA SIMPLE SYRUP:
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 3 Cinnamon sticks
  • 6 Cardamom Pods, lightly crushed(or ½ teaspoon ground)
  • ½ teaspoon Nutmeg(freshly grated, if possible)
  • 1 Vanilla Bean
  • Juice of 2 Lemons
  • FOR THE GIN SOUR:
  • Juice of ½ Lemon
  • 1 Egg White
  • ½ ounce Spiced Lemon Vanilla Simple Syrup
  • 2 ounces Gin
  • Ice
  • Whole Cardamom Pod, to garnish
Instructions
  1. FOR THE SPICED LEMON VANILLA SIMPLE SYRUP:
  2. Place the sugar and water in a medium-sized saucepan and stir. Place the cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, nutmeg, vanilla bean(slit the bean, scrape the seeds into the pan, and add the pod as well), and lemon juice to the pan and give another stir. Bring to a boil over medium/high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium and let simmer gently for 8 minutes. Remove from heat and cover. Let sit for 1 hour.
  3. Pour syrup through a fine mesh strainer, discarding solids.
  4. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  5. TO MAKE THE GIN SOUR:
  6. Place the lemon juice, egg white, simple syrup, and gin in a cocktail shaker and shake for 20 seconds.
  7. Add the ice to the shaker and shake again until chilled.
  8. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a cardamom pod or lemon twist.
