You’ve all seen Disney’s Snow White, right?
Good.
You know that part where the evil queen dips the apple in poison and as it drips down the apple it forms the shape of a skull?
That was my inspiration for these spooky Halloween cake pops.
Wouldn’t these be fun at a Halloween party? I love the contrast of the poisoned apples against the regular apples.
These apples are pretty simple to make. Just bake your favorite cake and allow it to cool(make enough cake to fit in a 9×13 pan). Crumble the cake up and mix it with frosting until it forms a sort of dough. Divide the dough into portions with a small scoop. Roll each portion into a smooth ball. Make an indention on top of the ball with your finger and pinch in the bottom of the ball a little bit(all the way around) to make an apple shape. When all cake balls are shaped, freeze them for about 45 minutes.
Dip the tip of a sucker stick into melted red chocolate and insert into the bottom of the cake apples. Do this to all of the cold cake apples. Take a stick with a cake apple on it and dip the whole apple into the red chocolate. Tap off excess chocolate and insert a stem(I made mine with molding chocolate but you could shape tootsie rolls) into the top of the apple. Allow to set.
Melt white chocolate and place in a piping bag fitted with a small circular tip. Pipe out two circles for eyes and a nose shape onto the red dipped apples. Fill the spaces around the eyes and nose shapes with the white chocolate and tap to help it blend and drip down. Allow to set.
If you don’t feel like sharing you can always bite into one to show everyone that they are clearly chocolately rotten inside. Who would want to eat a brown apple? I don’t know about you but I am always willing to take a hit for my kids and eat the food that no one else wants.
It’s a tough job but I do it.
Happy Halloween, Everyone!

Thanks, Steph! Wish we lived closer so I could pawn some off on you!

how do you get the white chocolate to drip down from the top, while keeping the holes for the eyes and nose?
Kayley says
Pipe the chocolate around the eye and nose holes, sort of piping the drips as you cover the apple with chocolate.

This did not work for me at all! I decided to try these as my first cake pop and I failed haha. But I love what yours looked like!
